How the EU media reports and broadcasts the EU accession negotiations process

On 28 July 2020 a public discussion online was organized with more than 50 participants focused on how the EU media reports and broadcasts the EU accession negotiations process of the Western Balkans and more specifically EU integration process of Albania.
During this webinar, the representative from University of New York Tirana, PhD Denard Veshi, as coordinator of the project “European Union Enlargement for the Western Balkans” briefly introduced the aim of the project which is to establish a center of excellence focused on EU integration issues.
Gledis Gjipali, EMA executive director stated that these activities are essential to offer a space for debate and discussion to various participants in order for them to exchange ideas and offer recommendations concerning challenges and issues our country is facing in framework of EU integration process.  The activity’s goal was to gather together representatives from universities – public and private, students and lecturers, representatives from Civil Society Organizations and public institutions to talk and debate about the most prominent issues linked with EU integration process of the country.
The main speaker of the activity was Alexandra Voudouri, a Greek media expert who analyzed the media’s role on reporting the EU enlargement process and how it influences the opinions’ and attitudes of EU citizens towards this process and towards the involved countries.
The discussion among the experts and participants were focused on how the  new COVID pandemic situation affects media access, which are the policies of EU in this matter and how media can be used as a tool for lobbying for EU accession of the WB and which is the role of other stakeholders, including youth and students to change the somewhat negative perception EU citizens have against WB countries.
